As you are no doubt aware, recently Telkom has been experiencing Gateway Timeouts and DNS issues.

In an effort to assist you in getting the best perfomance out of your SAIX ADSL connection, we provide you with the SAIX proxy server settings. This can be toggled on/off for the best performance.

This proxy server keeps a local copy of information requested from a remote network so that subsequent retrieval of the same information normally happens much quicker.

	Server name:	dsl-cache.saix.net
	Port:	8080
	Primary DNS:	196.25.255.34
	Secondary DNS:	196.25.255.3

Detailed Steps

Firefox 2

1. Go to Tools > Options.
2. Click the Advanced icon and go to the Network tab.
3. Click the Settings button to open the Connection Settings dialog.
4. Select Manual proxy configuration and enter dsl-cache.saix.net in the HTTP Proxy field and 8080 in the Port field.
5. Click OK twice and the settings will have been saved.

Internet Explorer 7

1. Go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. Go to the Connections tab.
3. Click the LAN settings button.
4. Select the radio button to Use a proxy server for your LAN.
5. Enter dsl-cache.saix.net in the Address field and 8080 in the Port field.

We had some hick-ups here and there due to the large number of RSS Readers available and their incompatibility with our feed setup at times, that we have made “Snarfer” available to be downloaded directly from our Site.

DSL Groups launched!

A new product launched by leading Internet Service Provider (ISP), MVGL Africa, offers a solution to the headache of managing multiple ADSL accounts within a company. The product, DSL Groups, allows an ADSL master account to be setup with unlimited sub accounts beneath it. DSL Groups provides a centralized, scalable platform that reduces administration time and costs. Further savings can be realized as the master account is billed only on actual bandwidth used (by each of the sub accounts), not on allocated caps.

According to Mark Frederickson, MD of MVGL Africa, a typical usage scenario would be centralizing branch management for corporate IT departments deploying ADSL at the branch level. Another being employee benefit schemes aimed at encouraging teleworking within the workforce. The company would then sponsor or co-sponsor ADSL for employees, much like a petrol card.

"Features include live usage reporting, downloadable Excel reports, as well usage notifications via SMS and email for both end users and IT administrators, all on the convenience of a single invoice. Users can be added removed, suspended as well as upgraded and downgraded by the administrator, autonomously from the ISP." says Mark. "I'm really excited about the flexibility of DSL Groups", he goes on to explain. DSL Groups is fully compatible with MVGL Africa's existing DSL Complete, auto-topup and prepaid systems and allows for co-payments. Thus if an employee reaches their bandwidth cap, the company could optionally allow users to pay for "topups" themselves autonomously beyond the sponsored usage on the company. "This model could also be used in a property estate development where ADSL is provided to tenants and managed by the group."
